What is BeautyCounter?

BeautyCounter is a clean beauty company developed by a Mom.  She realized that some of the sunscreens that she was using on her children contained harmful toxins.  With further research, she discovered that the beauty industry is not regulated nearly as strictly other industries.

Since 1938, the US has not passed any laws regulating what cannot be put in makeup.  That has been over 80 years!

BeautyCounter was founded in 2013.  They implement something called The Never List which is a list of over 1500 questionable or harmful chemicals that are never used in their products.

BeautyCounter also foregoes fragrance in their products.  Added fragrances are an unnecessary addition to most products.   A fragrance additive is loosely defined as containing any combination of 3,000-plus stock chemical ingredients.  Fragrances can contain everything from hormone disruptors to allergens.

Fragrance Formulas are protected under the federal law’s special classification of trade secrets.  What is truly inside the fragrance in your lotion can remain undisclosed to you.   This is legal.   This is often referred to as the fragrance loophole.

Beautycounter is also a certified B-Corp.  This means that it has volunteered to be graded by the non-profit B Lab each year.   BeautyCounter is committed to meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance.  They also commit to public transparency and legal accountability.  In my opinion, this makes BeautyCounter a trustworthy and highly regarded company.

BeautyCounter also offers a business opportunity.  You will need to buy one of their Starter Packages and then you can make a commission on selling their products and promoting others to do the same.  We will discuss this opportunity to make money in greater detail later in the article.

Is BeautyCounter a Scam?

BeautyCounter is not a scam.  They are way better than most companies that I have reviewed.  They do offer a Multi-level Marketing style opportunity but it is one of the best that I have seen.

BeautyCounter is a legitimate company and I do admire their mission to bring us clean products.  The products that we use on our skin effect our overall health more than most people realize.

Can You Make Money with BeautyCounter?

You can make money with BeautyCounter.  You can choose to do it full or part-time and it is your decision on how much time you put into it.  As with any business, it takes an investment of time and devotion.  You will see more results the more time that you devote to building your business.

In my opinion, businesses such as this are easier to get started if you are a social person with a wide network of friends.

Below I have listed the steps involved to get started in a BeautyCounter business.

How do you make a commission with BeautyCounter?

You can make money by selling Beautycounter products.  You can promote them to your friends, family, and acquaintances.  You can do this through Pop-ups (Hosted Parties), One-on-One appointments, and online.

You can make up to 35% commission on each and every product that you sell.

You can also earn additional commissions when you recruit others to join your business.

Is BeautyCounter a MLM?

BeautyCounter is structured as a MLM because they encourage you to recruit others and offer a commission for doing so.

You can make up to 35% commission selling their products.  This is actually a very high commission.

They can end your consulting agreement if after 6 months you do not sell the quota of products.

Do the BeautyCounter Products work?

Customers are saying that they do like the products but the products are overpriced compared to other equivalents.

Although they are clean products, they do contain certain synthetics to maintain shelf life.  This may be a concern for some.  I do not really see a way around it if the products are to have a shelf life.

Overall, the products are good if they fit into your budget.

My Final Thoughts on BeautyCounter  My Final Thoughts on BeautyCounter

I am impressed by BeautyCounter’s mission to bring us clean and natural products.  That is something that is important to me.  I am also impressed by their mission to fight for stricter regulations on products.

Of course, I am concerned by the higher prices.  Typically most organic or natural things have a higher price tag though.

I do not like the fact that they reserve the right to end your consulting agreement if you do not meet your quota after 6 months.  I do not know exactly yet what the quota is.  Nevertheless, it takes time to build a business.

I am open to trying BeautyCounter Products.  I do like trying new products.  I am always open to exploring something new.

  1. It is always a positive when the goal of a company is to produce products that are top notch and do not harm to the human system. This is a very good company and this is one of the reasons why they will be in market for a long time. The business model is the only problem that I see but I can let them pass because of the awesomeness of the products they have. Nice work here to review beauty counter.

    • Henderson,

I am so glad that you found my Beauty Counter Review to be useful!

It is important to me also to have safe products.  Beauty Counter certainly delivers in that aspect!

I do not support MLMs either.  But, I do believe that it is important to find MLMs with viable products that are useful to people when you are looking for one!

      Thank you for your comment!

  2. Hi, I was wondering about the toxins that are being found on the average beauty cosmetic product, and is it something that causes any health problems or skin disorders?

I was also wondering how much of a price difference there is between the clean moms brand and the average brand?  Can you pick up clean beauty products without additives at a regular retail store?

    • Jake,

There are a lot of toxins and chemicals in regular drug store or department store products unless it says otherwise.

For people with sensitive skin or autoimmune issues, this can be an extra concern.

I do not know the exact percentage but I am sure it is sizeable.  It is important to check the labels.  I have not seen any clean and healthy brands of make-up at the drug store.  There is a brand called Bare Minerals which is supposed to be all-natural.

BeautyCounter does appear to be a brand worth trying.

      Thank you for your comment!

  3. Wow, what a good company to start with. For the products to have such good reviews from the customers then definitely it is of high quality. I like the fact that the product is clean as you have said it. That is a very good feature and this is a reason why more people should want to join in. If I am able to, I would too. When people see that a guy is selling something ladies would regularly, they would want to buy from me.

    • John,

I am glad that you enjoyed my BeautyCounter Reviews article!

BeautyCounter products are definitely high-quality and clean.  I would use them myself.

lol.  Yes, I am sure that you could sell to the ladies.  Plus, this product is a good one so that helps!

Thank you so much for your post!

      Best wishes!
